Colour Script - Near Final
The colour grading across the film is proving surprisingly tricky. The shots lit and rendered with the automated system we developed later in the project are all pretty easy to work with and allow you to tweak all the separate characters and objects to bring things in line, so even the odd piece of inconsistent lighting can be fixed. But earlier scenes lit with differing methods present significant challenges. The most common issue is when most of the scene has been rendered in one pass, the task to correct isolated character colours then becomes huge. If we were a funded project with time and resources I'd say it would be easier to go back the re-light those scenes, accepting that the earlier versions were the test pieces that got us to this point. But we don't have that luxury so I've been doing the best I can to fudge fix as much as possible as close as possible from a priority list. Even from these tiny images I can see flaws, but it's when you watch the film that the flaws present themselves. Nothing really bad had been left but it's inevitable that the artists with the keenest eyes will spot a few issues. Hopefully most viewers won't be bothered by it though.
